Noel Smith

Noel was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Before Noel became an author he trained and worked as a hair stylist. He learned how to colour, cut and style hair for men and women and got so good at it he had an opportunity to work in a salon in Toronto, Canada. Noel got to live there, in a different country, for three years from 2018 until 2021.

After returning home to his family and friends in Belfast, Noel realised a new passion and wanted a new job: working with children. An opportunity to help young people grow and learn felt very rewarding. The wonderful boys and girls Noel got to work and play with gave him the idea for his very first book.

Noel has now written two picture books ‘The Adventures of Mr Bumble’‘ (2024) and ‘Building Beaver Dam‘ (2025) he even told us a little secret… he is busy writing his third book but will not tell us what the next adventure will be just yet. Beyond books Noel is the creator and face of the early years YouTube video series called Noel’s Tales especially designed for Special Educational Needs (SEN) and pre-school children. Through colourful and eye catching backgrounds, storytelling, songs and sensory-rich experiences, Noel blends fun with research-based learning to engage, entertain and educate young audiences. His work encourages curiosity, creativity and confidence making learning feel like an adventure.

When Noel is not writing books, in the classroom with his students or creating another YouTube video you can find him in a dance class. Noel has danced since he was a little boy, probably age 9, and also trained in gymnastics and judo.

For hobbies now that Noel is an adult he is learning how to speak French, using the app Duolingo on his phone, and is being taught how to play the guitar by Ricky. Besides books and reading, Noel also loves music and his favourite singers are Britney Spears, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.

Noel has a dog. A French Bulldog called Gigi. She was born in 2024 and her four favourite things in the world are: going for a walk, playing tug of war, getting lots of cuddles and eating delicious home made biscuits made by Noel just for her.

If I was a superhero… I would like my super power be the ability to fly. I would be able to save a cat that got stuck in a tree and I would be able to fly across the world to Canada and see all of my friends. I bet I could be really fast. I don’t have a superhero name and I think I need some help choosing one.
