Hello 30… A New Chapter

As Michelle Obama put it: life begins at thirty. It is the perfect age to take risks, set new goals and chase after your passions… and I plan on doing just that. I was a little apprehensive about sharing with everyone on the internet that I am in fact turning 30 today – and I was also asked a thought provoking question in the lead up to this blog post and website launching. “If you don’t look 30, why are you so quick to tell everyone you are?” I sat and wondered for a little while until I realised I already knew why, it was the very reason for wanting to do so in the first place. Seeing in this new chapter in my life is cause for celebration. I feel as though I am at the perfect intersection of experience and possibility to make this exciting new chapter as whimsical as it can be. With that in mind I would like to take this opportunity to share with everyone reading, on this milestone birthday, that I have wrote a children’s book and it is due to be published in Spring 2024! This has been a work in progress for almost one year and it finally feels as though it is coming to fruition. Behind the scenes myself and Ricky, my fantastic partner and illustrator, have been hard at work to ensure this book is the best possible version it can be and it has finally been submitted to the publishers for them to put the finishing touches on it before you are able to call it your own.

“30 is when you truly start to come into your own. Embrace your individuality, follow your passions and never settle for anything less than what you deserve.” – Mindy Kaling, 2011.

Together we have created a fun and educational story about a little character called Mr. Bumble who is on an adventure to seek out the brightest, pinkest Hibiscus in the garden so he can borrow some nectar and continue on his journey to make delicious honey. But that is not all because pollinators like bees and butterflies also help our crops thrive. Thanks to them they can help us grow food such as apples, cucumbers, watermelon and berries! Please tell me I have just shared something new and interesting with you? The story takes place in Buzz Meadows – a family farm run by Bryce and Hazel that has magically come to life thanks to Ricky. His stunning illustrations are thanks to his sharp eye and attention to even the smallest details. To say he has the patience of a saint is an understatement. He has dedicated hours of his time to this story with the hope these pages (both the words and illustrations) can spark a child’s imagination and ignite a passion for reading and writing.
