The legendary American singer-songwriter, and at this point music industry, Taylor Swift brought her highly anticipated and record breaking The Eras Tour to the capital of Ireland for three sold out nights at Aviva Stadium in Dublin on June 28, 29 and 30. The last time Irish fans witnessed Taylor grace the stage was 2018’s Reputation Tour where she played two nights in Croke Park, with neither selling out, but since then she has released five new studio albums and four reclaimed ‘Taylor’s Version’ editions of her previous work. This bringing to a rough estimate of 225 songs, both old and new, which has resulted in a new legion of fans to add to the already well established and dedicated die hard Swiftie fanbase. The Eras Tour will take us on a musical journey spanning Taylor’s eighteen year musical career and goes as far back as her sophomore album, 2008’s Fearless, up to her recent April 2024 release The Tortured Poets Department. I was fortunate enough to attend night two – Saturday 29 with Taylor Swift and a sold out crowd of 50,000 fans who were arguably the star of the show. Tens of thousands of fans came dressed in their best era outfit, paying homage to their favourite album or song from the star, exchanging friendship bracelets they spent hours dedicating to make in the weeks and months leading up to the show and above all else: they were loud. It has been six years since Taylor visited us and we had a lot of catching up to do.

We arrive at the Aviva Stadium shortly after doors opening at 5:00PM and were Front Standing Left. There was already an army of fans occupying the barrier along the stage but we settled for being in the fifth row which provided incredible, uninterrupted views. We were right at the diamond which is where majority of the show happens. There was so much interaction from Taylor and the dancers throughout the three hour set.
There is nothing like a pop audience and there is nothing quite like the support of Irish fans. From the opening synths of Lady Gaga’s ‘Applause’ the packed stadium went into a frenzy – as the true die hard Swift fans who have spent most of the last year watching and reading everything they need to know before attending The Eras Tour knew the countdown was really on. A clock emerged on the giant screen with a countdown and before we knew it… it was show time. It was our turn. Our moment to witness everything for the very first time. As Taylor sings in her Red hit 22 ‘it feels like a perfect night.’

Opening the show was 2019’s ‘Lover’ era. The last album Swift released before the impending COVID-19 lockdown and rightfully took opening slot as the pandemic caused the planned Lover Fest in support of the album to be canceled.

Fearless was the first re-recording project Swift put out back in 2021. Only if you have been living under a rock you might not know Taylor is in the process of re-recording her first six studio albums in response to owning her masters that were sold without her consent back in 2019. The Taylor’s Version edition of the album includes all 20 songs from the original album along with 6 never before heard ‘From The Vault’ tracks that were written and recorded during the time of the album, but failed to make it on to the final track list. Later in 2021 Swift released Red (Taylor’s Version) and in 2023 would release Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version). There are two albums remaining as part of the re-recording project and are expected to be released 2025: Reputation and her debut album named Taylor Swift.

During the Folklore & Evermore era Taylor took a moment to chat with the 50,000 strong audience: “I just think that all the themes in folklore, how I imagined the album world looking – Ireland, storytelling, lots of different characters. You guys have that on lock too, that’s very Irish, the storytelling. Taylor released her eleventh studio album The Tortured Poets Department in April 2024 – during the tour run. Meaning European fans are the first and so far only fans to witness seven songs from the album being performed live.

The acoustic section of the show is one of the most anticipated moments of the night for attending fans. Taylor performs two songs: one is performed while Taylor plays on guitar and the other on a piano. For night two in Dublin fans were treated to a never performed live song before. ‘The Albatross’ from recently released The Tortured Poets Department mashed with 2017’s Reputation song ‘Dancing With Our Hands Tied’ and for the piano songs we were treated to fan favourite 1989 track ‘This Love’ and Speak Now single ‘Ours’

Before we knew it the end of the night was near. Following the acoustic section Taylor plunges into the trap door on the stage before emerging into the final act of the evening. Her 2022 album ‘Midnights’ finishes the evening just as the sun has set over Dublin. Only for the final act do fans get to appreciate the magnitude of the show. The lights, the sparkles, the confetti, the fireworks. The three hour show pulls out all the stops and does not disappoint.
