‘The Adventures of Mr Bumble’ is the first children’s picture book by duo Noel Smith (author) and Ricky Baird (illustrator) which was released on 27 June 2024 through Bumblebee Books (an imprint of Olympia Publishers.) Welcome to Buzz Meadows, the fictional family farm run by Bryce and Hazel which serves as the backdrop for ‘The Adventures of Mr Bumble’ – the first children’s book written by Noel Smith and illustrated by Ricky Baird.

Follow Mr Bumble on his exciting adventure to find the brightest pinkest Hibiscus in the garden. Through exciting illustrations and educational story-telling ‘The Adventures of Mr Bumble’ teaches young children the importance of bees and their vital role in our ecosystem.

Noel has used his experience in working with children and young adults with special educational needs to create an exciting and engaging story to capture the readers attention. Ricky was the perfect artist to collaborate with when it came to choosing an illustrator to bring this story to life. Facts

  1. ‘The Adventures of Mr Bumble’ was planned to be a three part series of books that followed the tale of Mr. Bumbles search for the perfect flower to make delicious honey.
  2. Part One was subtitled: Spring Is Here, Flowers Grow, Goodbye Snow.
  3. After the first draft was submitted to several publishing agencies for consideration they all came back with the same note: that the book was too short for publication and recommended the book be extended before being reviewed again.
  4. What is now ‘The Adventures of Mr Bumble’ is a combination of part one and two – with minor alterations for better story telling.
  5. Part Two was written three weeks after the first story and did not have a subtitle.
  6. After the two books were adopted to become one they were quickly sent off to publishing agencies for further consideration.
  7. It ultimately came down to two publishing agencies that said ‘yes’ out of a handful of rejections.
